Gas prices, up 70 cents a gallon

In the last week gasoline prices in the local area have risen as much as 55 cents a gallon and some even more. Prices locally are now above the national average. I don’t ever recall this happening. What is going on? There is very little information as to why. Why isn’t there some government agency regulating this assault on us?
