Ex-Corbin Fire Chief Gary Price dies over weekend at 63
Former Corbin Fire Chief Gary Price will be laid to rest today.
The 33-year-veteran firefighter, who retired from the department in August 2008, died Saturday at the age of 63.
“He loved the fire department,” said Battalion Chief Aric Young, who started at the department in 1997 when Price was assistant chief.
Corbin Battalion Chief Larry Jones said Price was the type of person that would laugh and joke, but when the tones dropped it was time to get serious.
On the scene, Jones said Price set the tone.
“He wanted things done his way and when he wanted them done,” Jones said.
In addition to his time with Corbin, Price also ran with the West Knox Fire Department.
Price is survived by three children, Vernon and Haynes Price, and Amanda Spitser.
Price’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin. Burial will follow at McFarland Cemetery in Corbin.
