Fundraiser scheduled to help family of Williamsburg student
A fundraiser for a Williamsburg student that recently died is planned for Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Denise McKeehan has known Nick Rainwater’s family for years. She said she has followed Nick’s story, and when she ran into a family member several weeks ago, she was asked if she had any ideas for how the family could raise money.
McKeehan said with her fundraising experience, she began looking more closely into the family’s story to see how she could help.
From there the Nickels for Nick fundraiser was born.
The fundraiser will be a dinner with live entertainment, a car show featuring local racecar drivers, an old-fashioned swap meet, a silent auction, and more.
Troublesome Times and Three Years Apart will both perform.
The swap meet and car show both have a $15 registration fee. The swap meet will feature anything with a motor McKeehan said.
The silent auction will include a variety of items such as pies and cakes.
Several of Rainwater’s uncles are building a porch swing which will either be raffled or auctioned off.
Both Santa Claus and the Grinch will be in attendance, and they will sell pictures for $5 at the event.
Door prizes will be drawn from the registrations.
“We are trying to tie in everything we possibly can to bring people in,” said McKeehan.
The fundraiser was originally planned prior to Rainwater’s passing.
Rainwater died on Nov. 1 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Rainwater was battling Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, and was a student at Williamsburg City School.
In addition to the Nickels for Nick fundraiser, there is also a three gallon water jug at Butch’s Market on Hwy. 25W in Williamsburg.
Organizers hope to fill the jug with coins and dollars by Dec. 5.
Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department is located at 4088 Hwy 904 E in Williamsburg.
