Friday afternoon blaze destroys Wolf Creek Road home

Fire destroyed this Wolf Creek Road home Friday afternoon.

A Wolf Creek Road home was completely destroyed Friday afternoon despite the best efforts of about 20 firefighters from four volunteer fire departments.

The fire at 3359 Wolf Creek Road was first reported to authorities about 2 p.m. Friday.

“We had flames coming through the roof and out the front when we arrived,” said Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Chief Thomas Manning.
Firefighters from Pleasant View, Emlyn, South Whitley and Goldbug volunteer fire departments all responded to the scene, but the home, an outbuilding behind it and a car in front of it were all destroyed.

“Right now it is under investigation,” Manning said about two hours after the blaze was first reported.

So far authorities aren’t sure how the fire started and due to the extent of the damage to the home, might never know for certain the cause of it, Manning noted.

Manning said he thinks two to three people were home when the fire was first reported. He said that at least one person was taken to the hospital by Whitley County EMS to be checked out.

Manning said that it is “real fortunate” that no one was seriously injured.

Jada Rose owned the wood-framed house. She shared the home with her children, Margaret Byrd, 4, Zachary Lomio, 17, and her father, J.L. Rose, 68.

Authorities said J.L. Rose was the person transported to the hospital from the scene.

Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses also assisted at the scene.
