Four-year-old dies in Corbin crash
A traffic crash at the intersection of US 25 E and the Corbin Bypass Thursday resulted in the death of a four-year-old passenger of one of the vehicles involved.
Police say Zoie Alridge, the child killed in the crash, was restrained in a child seat before the impact that tossed her from the vehicle.
The accident happened at the busy intersection at about 1:28 p.m. Nov. 18. Investigators say a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 26-year-old Leslie Hubbard, of Pineville, was struck by a 1993 International semi truck and trailer driven by 49-year-old Danny Whitley, of Middlesex, Tenn. The Cutlass was knocked into a 1996 Ford Mustang driven by 37-year-old Vandora Belew of Corbin.
Hubbard was traveling north on US 25E and attempted to make a left turn onto the bypass (KY 3041) when the collision occurred. Belew was siting on KY 3041 waiting to make a right turn when Hubbard’s vehicle careened into her car.
Hubbard was pregnant and received serious injuries in the crash. Members of the Corbin Fire Department and the Corbin-Knox EMS Ambulance Service removed her from her vehicle. She was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center and later flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Belew was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center by private vehicle and treated for minor injuries. Whitley was not injured in the crash.
Alridge was pronounced dead at Baptist Regional Medical Center by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.
Witnesses at the scene say Hubbard misjudged how close oncoming traffic was when she tried to cross the southbound lane and make the left turn.
The investigation into the crash was conducted by Corbin Police officer Jason Williams. He was assisted by Ptl. Chad Gregory, Ptl. Steve Douglas and Capt. Tim Helton.
