A former Whitley district judge is now on the other side of the law after being arrested Thursday afternoon for drug trafficking.
Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman arrested Jason Paul Price, 38, of Williamsburg, about 4:15 p.m. Thursday charging him with first-degree first-offense trafficking in a controlled substance and lodged him in the Whitley County Detention Center.
"We’ve been conducting an investigation for a while into drug trafficking by him," said Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird. "He was accepting drugs as payment for legal fees."
Bird said the investigation had been ongoing for about one year and that it came to a head when police were able to arrange a drug transaction between Price and a cooperating source Thursday.
"We kind of got a break recently with some developing information, which expedited our investigation and led to the arrest today," Bird said.
The deal took place between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot at Taco Bell in Williamsburg when Price allegedly accepted 15 30-mg Oxycodone pills as a $500 payment for legal fees, Bird said.
After the exchange, authorities immediately arrested Price.
Freeman is leading the investigation into Thursdayís alleged drug transaction.
Bird is leading the investigation into the other aspects of the drug trafficking case.
"Additional charges will be presented to a Whitley County Grand Jury on Mr. Price," Bird added.
Price served as Whitley district judge from late 2008 when he won a special election against incumbent Fred White only to lose to White during a rematch in late 2010.
Williamsburg K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt and Officer Ashley Wampler assisted at the scene Thursday.
No one else has been charged in connection with the investigation.

Everyone makes mistakes an alot of people in williamsburg need help with their problems they are making a big
Deal out of this because of him being
A lawyer an used to be judge well
Atleast he was working an not out stealing from people an yes he has two daughters and a son but is divorced..
Before Jason was Judge, after only one year of practice with Frank Atkins, Jason was made partner. Jason was the City Attorney for the City of Williamsburg, where he provided legal counsel to the Mayor and his staff.
Jason was also legal counsel for the Williamsburg Independent School District, where he advise on disciplinary issues, employment issues and school law. In addition, Jason was employed by the City of Williamsburg Airport Board as legal counsel as well as the Williamsburg Housing Authority.
I pray Jason gets the help he needs.
Jason has a wife and two young daughters.
My daughter died from drugs. She didn’t get the help she needed.
I would like to see a KY proposition that calls for random drug testing of Kentucky elected official’s.
I do believe in this and would like for those of you who feel the way I do show your support. I understand drug testing of many of us who need, not depend on government help. I have now found a job at Wal Mart and even then had to take a drug test. If I were an elected official I would have a drug test just to show the people I cared.
I also think our teachers and school leaders are no better than all of us working for Wal Mart.
What would be wrong with this Law? After all why should some in important position’s be above a drug test.
Wal Mart understands how much it would cost to have employees working under the influence of drugs. I understand look what it
has already cost us here in Whitley County. Is our County not as important as Wal Mart.
Do county and city employs have to take a drug test like most of us looking for work?
Hate to say but most officials here are more corrupt than the ones they incarcerate. It used to be a nice little town to settle down and raise kids. I had dreams of sending my kids to the same school I graduated from for a great education. Now even that is a thing of the past. Most politicians and authorities are corrupt. People have forgotten community values and are very strange from intoxication of meth and pills. We once had a nice small town with nice small town values. Think I will trade it in for the metropolis of Nashville, TN. At least there will be more opportunity there.
Whitey County is so corrupt. I hate that **** splat town. All these used to be jocks think they are so cool abusing their power. They are all bad.. All of them . I dislike all of them equally. At least the ones on drugs have an excuse . Many of them just get off on being a terrible person. I got totally railroaded in a situation because I was not in the drug click or would not sleep with anyone. This down is a disgrace. I hope they all get in trouble. I am so grateful that I don’t have to live there anymore.

Karma is a bitch
Karma
What took so long? You should have fraud charges also for lying about a rebuild title…that took two people on that one who were guilty. The people of this town know the truth. I am surprised it was only roxceys…..you were once a good guy…what happened???
Not a surprise to me.
This is sad! What will it take for Whitley County to wake up. I am so proud of our Police here in Williamsburg. The rash of deaths is just one example of the incalculable heartbreak drug abuse brings: overdose deaths, babies born addicted, homes and businesses robbed, families wrecked, and people who can’t get work because of a drug conviction.
“It has completely reshaped our community in Williamsburg,” just who are the drug dealers? Could they be the one’s who issue the prescription drug’s? Not one Hospital in Williamsburg, only 4 red lights and one Doctor with 13 Drug Stores. Is something wrong with this picture?
