Former Hometown Bank loan officer accused of embezzling over $280,000
A former Corbin loan officer is being accused by a federal grand jury of embezzling over $280,000 from a local bank over nearly a two-year period from late 2005 until mid 2007.
Vickie L. Young, a former employee at Hometown Bank of Corbin, Inc., was indicted on a single count of theft/embezzlement from allegedly stealing $281.164.72 during her tenure with the company. According to the indictment, handed down Feb. 26, Young began stealing money from the bank on or about Nov. 1 2005 and continued the scheme until June 17, 2007.
Federal authorities are handling the case because Hometown Bank’s deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Williamsburg attorney Paul Croley was appointed to represent Young during pre-indictment negotiations.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert E. Wier issued a criminal summons for Young the day she was indicted. She is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in London for an arraignment hearing March 12 at 10:00 a.m.
If convicted, Young faces up to 30 years imprisonment and $1 million in fines.
