Forest Lanes owner says bowling alley’s last day uncertain, cites ‘unresolved family matter’

August 31 may not be the last day for Forest Lanes, but owner Roman Cassidy is welcoming and encouraging the public to come and enjoy the facility for as long as possible.

“This is an unresolved family matter,” Cassidy said, declining to say anything further.

Janet Osborne, a regular participant in the Monday night women’s league since 1983, said that fall bowling leagues that typically begin right after Labor Day and run through April will not begin as previously scheduled.

“The bowlers have been told to go elsewhere,” Obsborne said, adding she and other regulars have received mail from Galaxy Lanes in Richmond encouraging them to go there.

“Most everybody is going to Richmond,” Osborne said. “A few people are going to Harrogate.

Osborne, who is captain of one of three teams sponsored by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Corbin, said the company is going to continue to sponsor those teams.

“We are very happy about that,” Osborne said.

The members of the US Bowling Congress Corbin-London Women’s Bowling Association met Thursday night.

Osborne, who is a member, said the members voted to give $500 to each of the three high school programs in an effort to help them continue.

Osborne said, ideally, the bowling alley will continue to operate as it has.

Barring that, she said the bowlers would like to see the equipment moved to another, even if it is smaller, location.
