Food sport judging class being offered in Corbin Dec. 6, tickets available online
Next year, Corbin will be partnering with World Food Championships to present chefs in the area with opportunities to qualify for competition with culinary experts from all over the globe in Dallas, TX. In order to make it to the big stage, however, they will first need to be selected as the winner of one of three local events – Finger Lickin’ Chicken Week in January, Burger Week in June, and/or the all-new Chillin’ and Grillin’ steak competition that is set to debut next September.
Judging these contests will be specially trained local taste testers who will have the ability to send the best dishes on to the next level of WFC competition. How does one obtain the credentials necessary to do this job, you ask? Those interested can find out on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at a special food sport judging class hosted by WFC CEO Mike McCloud.
Tickets for the class are available now through Eventbrite.com, and cost $25 each. If you are on the Eventbrite home page, just search for “food sport judging class” in Corbin, and you should be directed to the signup link.
The class, which will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Corbin Public Library, is described as “an in-depth look into how food competitions are judged using World Food Championship’s E.A.T. scoring methodology.” According to the WFC website, E.A.T. stands for Execution, Appearance and Taste.
Those who successfully complete this class will become an officially certified food judge, and will be licensed to select winners of next year’s local food sport competitions, as well as participate in the main event in Dallas if they so wish.
“We are super-excited to offer this opportunity to the region,” commented Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen. “It is something different than anything we’re ever been able to offer before, and it ties in nicely with the culinary scene in Corbin.”
Monhollen said that up to 25 people will be accepted into the judging class. For additional information, contact the office of the Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission at (606) 528-8860.
