Five injured in accident on Corbin Bypass
A Barbourville woman has been charged with DUI and assault by state police after they say she caused a three-vehicle accident on the Corbin Bypass Wednesday that injured five people, one seriously.
According to Kentucky State Police, 24-year-old Heather Morgan was drunk when she crossed the centerline on the Corbin Bypass at about 2:30 p.m. and slammed into another vehicle, driven by Jessica Robbins. The crashed caused Robbins’ vehicle to carreen into a truck owned by the Holston Gas Company that was hauling tanks of liquid nitrogen and acetelyne.
Robbins was serious injured and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center In Lexington. She was listed in fair condition Wednesday. Morgan and the passengers in her vehicle were all treated at Baptist Regional Medical Center and released. The drive of the truck did not suffer any injuries.
Morgan was arrested and charged with DUI, first-degree assault and for driving on a suspended license. She also faces charges of failing to use a booster seat property and for not using a child-restraint device in her vehicle. She was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
The Corbin Bypass was reopened after being closed for about four hours while crews cleaned up chemicals that had leaked from the tanks, and while Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers reconstructed the scene.
