First responders recognized Monday in Corbin

Corbin Police and firefighters gathered Monday afternoon at Nibroc Park for a ceremony honoring first responders.

Various events were held on 911 to honor local first responders.

Corbin Police and firefighters were among those that came to NIBROC Park Monday afternoon to remember the approximately 3,000 people killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Among those killed were 343 firefighters, 61 law enforcement officers and eight EMT’s.

Over 250 first responders and their families turned out Monday evening at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center for the 16th Annual 911 Memorial and Emergency Service Appreciation Cookout, which is sponsored by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.

The attendees were treated to a free meal and were entertained by local bluegrass band Tidal Wave Road.
