First proposal at Corbin’s new kissing stone ends with a ‘yes!’

The Corbin Kissing Stone will be known to the future Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Caddell as the spot where the rest of their lives began.

Caddell took Sarah Hamblin, his girlfriend of three months, to the stone that had been installed on the Ed Tye Creek Walk near the Engineer Street Bridge on Saturday, where he got down on one knee and proposed.

“He said, ‘Let’s go out for a ride. There is something new in Corbin I want to show you,’” Hamblin explained adding that she had always loved that area of Corbin near the bridge.

Hamblin said once they got to the stone, she still had no idea the proposal was coming until Caddell got down on one knee and pulled out the ring.

“The kissing stone is inscribed with the words,” Love Begins Here,” Hamblin noted. “It was appropriate.”

Hamblin said she and Caddell have known each other since high school, though they have been dating for just three months.

“We were friends in high school, riding the bus together and sitting together,” Hamblin said.

Now 26 and 27, Hamblin said the proposal was perfect in every way.

Both families were excited upon hearing the news.

The couple has set a wedding date for Dec. 11.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen led the effort to bring the kissing stone to that area.

The work of Marty Jordan, of Written in Stone, it was set in place on July 8.

Monhollen had the stone placed at the head of the creek walk with the hope that couples would share their photos at the stone online with the hashtag #corbinkissingstone.

Monhollen said this is the first marriage proposal at the stone that she has heard about, but she is hoping that it will begin a trend.

“How sweet was that?” Monhollen said. “We are spreading the love.”
