First Baptist Church of Williamsburg welcomes new lead pastor
Jeremy Shannon may be new in town, but he is not new to church leadership.
Shannon, a 34-year-old husband and father of three, recently made Whitley County his home after accepting the job of lead pastor at First Baptist Church, located at 230 S 5th St. in Williamsburg.
Originally from Lexington, Shannon comes to our area from Ft. Thomas in northern Kentucky, where he led a Baptist church as pastor for five years.
“We were really happy in Ft. Thomas,” Shannon explained. “We weren’t really looking to move, but somebody reached out to us from Williamsburg. Our policy is always to listen to any opportunity. We always want to continue exploring, because you just don’t know what God’s plans are.”
“As we continued to talk to the people here, we found that every single thing that we always said it would take to get us to leave Ft. Thomas… Those boxes just kept getting checked.”
Shannon says that one of the main things that drew him to First Baptist Williamsburg is the strong ties that the church shares with the local community.
“I want us to continue to be a big part of this community,” Shannon said. “And as part of the community, I want us to figure out ways that we can help Williamsburg continue to be a great place to live.”
Shannon said he also wants to make people aware of the many opportunities being offered at First Baptist Williamsburg, including an active children’s ministry, missions opportunities and a food pantry that provides people in need with food on the third Wednesday of each month.
Prior to his time in Ft. Thomas, Shannon spent eight years in youth ministry at a church in Tennessee. Before that, he served in a youth ministry for six years at a church in Cynthiana.
Shannon is a graduate of Georgetown College, which is where he met his wife, Jenni, who will now be working as an elementary school teacher for Williamsburg Independent Schools.
The Shannons have three children – Crosley, Henry and Asher.
