The men travelled west on Dec. 15 and began Hazmat Mitigation orders Wednesday morning, the department stated in a Facebook post.
“After finishing that night, firefighters provided fully staffed fire and rescue coverage to Marshall County until Monday morning while being housed at Palma-Briensburg Fire Department Station 2,” stated the post.
Members of the special operations team have a wide array of knowledge and expertise in disciplines, such as hazmat, rope rescue, swift water, confined space, trench, structural collapse, and EMT.
“We would like to thank Palma-Briensburg Fire Department for the hospitality provided to us, including keeping a driver at their station with us at all times, and thanks to the City of Corbin for allowing us to deploy and to our firefighters at home for filling in shifts and keeping the city covered,” stated the department’s Facebook post. “We were happy to provide manpower for all of Marshall County while they were recovering from tornado damage and responses. Continue to keep all of Western KY in your prayers as they work through these trying times.”
