Fine Arts Association announces 2016-17 performance schedule

Teenage trumpet prodigy Geoff Gallante will be performing as part of the Fine Arts Association of Southeast Kentucky Inc. 55th Concert Series.
The schedule is set for the Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky’s 55th Season, and the lineup features a mix of returning favorites along with some exciting new talent.
Betty Comer, Program Chair for the Fine Arts Association, said putting together the seven shows that make up this season’s calendar was tough, but rewarding.
“I believe our programming for this season is simply unparalleled,” Comer said. “I love to see the reaction from people who attend our shows. So often they are amazed and inspired by what they’ve just seen. It’s a good feeling.”
“It’s my strong belief that the performing arts enrich not only our collective communities, but the lives of all who live here,” Comer added. “The performing arts lift our spirits, inspire us, educate us and entertain us.”
The season kicks off Aug. 27 with a tribute performance to Motown super groups entitled “Shadows of the 60’s.” The show will be held at the Betty Hamilton Center for Performing Arts at Corbin High School.
The University of Kentucky Classical Guitar Ensemble will play at Conway Boatman Chapel, on the campus of Union College in Barbourville, on Sept. 17.
Famous Duquesne University dance troupe The Tamburitzans will be back to perform Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Betty Hamilton Center for Performing Arts at Corbin High School.
It just wouldn’t be the Christmas season without a performance of the perfect holiday story, The Nutcracker, presented by the Lexington Ballet on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Corbin High School. Students from the Gail Frederick School of Dance in Corbin and The Dance Centre in Williamsburg will be participating in the performance.

The American Spiritual Ensemble
The critically acclaimed American Spiritual Ensemble, led by tenor Dr. Everett McCorvey, will perform on Feb. 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church in London.
Fifteen-year-old trumpet prodigy Geoff Gallante will perform with his jazz quintet on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Gatliff Chapel on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg.
The season will end on a high note with a show by The American Chamber Players on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Corbin.
