Fight at Lion’s Den leads to one-year jail sentence for Walker man
A complaint about a fight at the Lion’s Den in Corbin early Saturday morning resulted in a 12-month jail sentence for a Walker man Monday morning and a pending felony charge.
Corbin Patrolman Matt Conley and Sgt. Glenn Taylor responded to the Lion’s Den and were told by management that that Billy R. Lowe had allegedly been involved in a fight, according to his arrest citation.
During the course of their investigation, police recovered two green oblong tablets marked "Watson 503" that were identified as Lorcet 10, according to the arrest citation.
Conley charged Lowe, 20, of Highway 718, with second-degree possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a legend drug, and lodged Lowe in the Whitley County Detention Center.
About 3:25 a.m. Monday, Deputy Jailer Chuck Gatliff was doing a head count, entered cell 235, and smelled marijuana, he wrote on the arrest citation.
Gatliff and Deputy Jailer Jerry Croley searched and found two small bags of what is believed to be marijuana in the mat of inmate Jesse Baker, Gatliff wrote.
"After questioning all inmates in the cell, it was determined that inmate Billy R. Lowe had in fact brought in the contraband. A lighter was also found in the same location," Gatliff wrote.
Gatliff charged Lowe with first-degree promoting contraband.
Lowe pleaded guilty to the drug possession charges during his arraignment Monday morning before District Judge Cathy Prewitt.
She sentenced Lowe to 12 months in jail and ordered him to pay court costs.
Prewitt entered a not guilty plea for Lowe on the contraband charged and scheduled an Aug. 3 preliminary hearing.
Deputy Jailer Trent Nelson also assisted with the contraband investigation.
