A local orthopedic surgeon, the founder of MRI Research Institute of Kentucky, is accusing his former business partner of lying about his qualifications, misusing equipment and failing to pay back a loan through a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in London last week.
Dr. Ronald Dubin is suing Dr. William George, a supposed physicist, for damages in excess of $75,000.
According to a News Journal story published last year, Dubin and George teamed up to open MRI Research Institute on Cumberland Falls Hwy. in Corbin in early November 2007. George, who was to work at the center operating the MRI machine, doing research and even teaching a course in MRI technology, was identified as a physicist who received his PHD from UCLA and is a leading expert in the MRI field. George claimed to have published 19 separate papers in scholarly journals regarding studies using MRI scanners, and said he was able to write his own software for the MRI scanner.
According to the lawsuit, filed by London attorney Scott M. Webster, George, now a citizen of Georgia, "intentionally misrepresented facts" regarding his qualifications, educational background, work experience and expenses he incurred during the time he was employed. The lawsuit also claims that George was loaned money by Dubin and still owes $2,767.
Also named in the lawsuit as a defendant is Anthony George.
No formal response to the allegations has yet been filed on behalf of the defendants.
Calls and an email seeking a response from Dubin’s attorney were not returned.
