Ernest Lee Siler
On May 11th, 2022 our good Lord took Ernest Lee Siler home.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Siler; his daughter, Fayedra Mumme (Matt); sisters Hazel Siler and Ruth Manning; brother, Arthur Siler; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and several siblings and many other beloved family members.
Ernie Siler was born on January 30th, 1941 in Verne, KY to his parents Elilzabeth (Bets) and William (Caney) Siler.
Ernie had a love for learning and enjoyed sports from the beginning. As a young boy he did not miss the opportunity to be in the classroom and he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Ernie’s love for learning continued throughout life. Ernie completed an undergraduate degree and two Master’s degrees in Education Administration and English.
During his 81 years, Ernie made a profound mark on life. He was a hero who served his country in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War.
He served the state of Kentucky by being a State Legislator Representative for two years 1975-1977.
Ernie’s making a difference did not stop here as he became a teacher of young minds. Ernie taught the first special education class in Whitley County. He was a teacher for elementary students at Woodbine and Nevisdale.
Eventually he worked his way up to Superintendent of the Whitley County School District. With all of these accomplishments, he made time to give to his church and the community. He was an ordained Deacon and served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Williamsburg for years.
Ernie Siler was a simple man, plain as they come when it came to living life. As long as the Cats and Reds were having success, sports were on the TV. Politics and westerns were always the back up. He was a family man that took extreme interest in those around him.
Ernie always gave more than he ever expected in return and this alone shows his amazing kindness. Just as he was with all his family, he had a true love for his friends. He took advantage of any opportunity to meet up with his closest comrades and make efforts to solve all the world’s problems over breakfast and coffee.
Ernie Siler was an extraordinary man, who will be dearly missed by many.
Funeral service was Saturday May 14, at Ellison Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Siler officiating. Interment will be in the Siler Cemetery at Verne.
