Elmer Carpenter

Elmer Carpenter, 72, of Poplar Street, Corbin, departed this life on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Baptist Health in Corbin.

He was born on December 17, 1945 in Williamsburg, to the late Dillard Lee Carpenter and Litha (McKiddy) Carpenter.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Powers and a brother, Kenneth Carpenter.

Elmer was a veteran of the United States Army a member of the American Legion and the DAV, and a Kentucky Colonel.

He worked at Storms Security and trained young recruits at the Army National Guard. He went to work at Baptist Health as a security guard for 9 years then left to go to Homeland and Diplomatic Federal and State Security, all the while he was working as a Deputy Sheriff for Whitley County.

Elmer was always involved with helping the Veterans and anyone he could, he made such a difference in every one’s life that he touched. He was always talking to the younger generation giving them advice on how to be the best they could be.

He was the best loving husband, father and friend to his wife and children. He is leaving a great legacy behind for he was loved by everyone’s life he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Carpenter of Corbin; four children, James Carpenter and wife Jeanette of Crittenden, Lisa Carpenter and fiancé Robert Phipps of Woodbine, Crystal Askins and fiancé Chris Bruner of Hinkle, and Shannon Askins and fiancé Christopher Lock of London; adopted son and daughter, Rex and Christine Stockard; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his dog, Lucky; three brothers, Walter Carpenter and wife Ella of Corbin, Leonard Carpenter and wife Gloria of Williamsburg and Junior Carpenter of Williamsburg; three sisters, Geneva Cox, Wanda Stevens and Wilma Ivey all of Williamsburg; special sister, Ruth Metcalf of Crittenden; best friend, Phillip Lawson of Williamsburg; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

The funeral service was held Monday, August 20, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton, Rev. Kenneth Rickett and Rev. Thomas Lanham officiating.

Following the service he was laid to rest in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy.

Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin.
