Elk’s Lodge Duck Race fundraiser expands, to be held this weekend

The Tri-County Elk Lodge #2826 in Corbin is turning its annual Duck Race fundraiser for the Kids with Cancer charity into a three-day event this year, and it begins this Friday with live entertainment, food and drink.

The Fourth Annual Duck Race for Kids with Cancer kicks off Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot behind Sander’s Park along Depot Street. The band Cull Hollow will be playing from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Jon Booth will entertain from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.

There will be a beer and Pepsi Garden and food will be provided by Smokey Bears Catering.

Saturday will feature a poker run. Registration begins behind the Elks Lodge at 10:00 a.m. and the run starts at 11:00 a.m. Riders will return to the lodge at about 4:00 p.m.

DJ “Turn it Up” will provide musical entertainment from noon until 5:00 p.m. Gary Baxter will perform from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Barry Jolly Live will be featured from 8:00 p.m. until midnight.

Ducks for the duck race can be purchased for $10 each starting Friday and will be sold on site each night.

The ducks will be dumped into Lynn Camp Creek from the bridge on Barbourville Street at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The first duck to float across the finish line at the bridge on Roy Kidd Ave. will be the winner. The purchaser of that duck will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

All money raised from the three-day event will go toward the Kids Cancer Alliance charity, which offers special camps geared toward kids fighting cancer — Camp Quality and Camp Indian Summer.

According to Donna Barton Vance, a member of Elk Lodge #2826, and one of the organizers of the Duck Race event, the lodge raised about $4,500 for the Kids Cancer Alliance last year. This year, the goal is $10,000.
Lodges across Kentucky raised a total of $68,000 for Kids Cancer Alliance in 2015.
