Elementary school student brings knife to school, injures another student
Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an incident Monday morning involving a Whitley North Elementary School student, who brought a kitchen knife to school and injured another student.
According to an automated call that Superintendent John Siler sent out to parents, the student used the knife to injure a classmate in the shoulder.
According to Siler’s call, the teacher immediately intervened and the school resource officer took control of the situation.
The parents of the injured student were notified.
“Our school district is committed to the safety and education of all students. We also want to communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise,” Siler said in the phone call.
“Please discuss with your children that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school. Also, please emphasize the importance of telling you or a staff member if they become aware that a student has a weapon at school. We want to work together to keep our schools safe.”
