Eight Corbin athletes sign to play college sports

Eight student athletes signed letters of intent to play a variety of sports at the college level on Feb. 2 at Corbin High School. Those students combined will receive more than $1 million in scholarship monies.
“This is huge for our community,” said Corbin Athletic Director Tackett Wilson. “It is huge for our school. It is huge for the parent and the student athlete.”
Student athletes who signed include: Emma Addison, cheerleading at University of Cumberlands; Haylee Stancil, soccer at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU); Eli Fisher, golf at LMU; Brandon Baker, football at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU); Ethan Goforth, football at EKU; Seth Huff, football at EKU; Treyveon Longmire, football at EKU; and Seth Mills, football at Indiana State University.
Wilson said signing letters of intent are so important because of the amount of hard work both players and parents have put in to getting to the day where the student signs a college letter of intent.
Athletes who signed Wednesday, represented a variety of sports including cheerleading, soccer, golf and football.
In terms of what those signing mean for Corbin’s athletic program, Wilson said, “The athletic program here is growing. We are taking on new sports. We have a lot of our students who are athletes here at the high school. We have a lot of students who are athletes in our district. We continue to grow.”
“We are an athletic town,” said Wilson. “Any time that you can prosper like this seeing these student athletes get college scholarships and play at the next level is great for our community.”
