Edward L. “Ed” Haynes Sr.
Edward L. “Ed” Haynes Sr., 89, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Beech Tree Manor in Jellico, TN.
Born in Scott Co., VA on August 12, 1928, a son of the late Robert and Gertrude McClellan Haynes, he has resided in this area his entire life. He was of the Baptist faith.
Ed was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in US Army. He retired from Canty-Ellis Manufacturing Co, following 45 years of service.
Ed will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, pap, and friend who loved to go to the flea market, trade knives, and was a fan of racing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Haynes in 2011; brothers, Fay Haynes, John Haynes, Ray Haynes, and Paul Jack Haynes.
Ed is survived by his son, Edward L. “Ed” Haynes, Jr., and wife Wanda of Kingsport; son, Carl McNew of Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren, Jason Haynes and wife Crystal, Amy Haynes, and Mary Ray, all of Kingsport; eight great-grandchildren, Trai, Kaden, Leighann, Kessie, Clayton, Darren, Hailie, and Destiny; one great-granddaughter, Ava; several nieces and nephews; very special friends, Charles “Ron” Johnson, Paul Mayfield, and Brenda Hicks; and his dog, Penny.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, December 6, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. G. W. White officiating.
Burial followed at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors was accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
