Dr. John Nelson

Dr. John Nelson, age 70, of Pikeville, KY passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday August 10, 2021.

John is preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Nelson; he is survived by his wife Shirley (Angel) Nelson; son, Phillip Nelson and wife Jellaine; niece, Amber Roberts and husband Chandler; nephews, Jonathan Harris Nelson and wife Ashley, Pastor Robert Angel and wife Pam, Nicholas Bunch and wife Jody, Matthew Harris and wife Michelle; sisters-in-law, Joyce Baird and Lenora Bunch and husband Pastor Alfred Bunch; brother-in-law, Pastor Larry Angel and wife Gail; and a host of friends to mourn his passing.

John served as Professor of Education at the University of Pikeville for 23 years. He was a Member Emeritus of the Pastoral Team at Grace Fellowship in Pikeville, KY.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 13 at 7:00 pm at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, TN with Pastor Michael Stewart, Pastor Debbie Bailey and Pastor Larry Angel officiating. Music will be provided by Christine Stewart.

Visitation will be 6:00 pm until the funeral hour at 7:00 pm. Interment will be Saturday, August 14, at 10 am in the Douglas Cemetery at Wooldridge, TN.
