‘The Dixie Grill’ to open for business March 20

March 20 will be D-day in Corbin as The Dixie Grill opens for business.

Owner Scott Hobbs said the revamped restaurant on North Main Street will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.

“We will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Hobbs said acknowledging that he is taking suggestions from the public, such as longer hours, seriously.

Another suggestion posted on the Corbin KY Facebook page in response to questions concerning what the public would like to see at the new restaurant was a return of the classic diner look.

Marsha Trosper, who owned and operated The Dixie prior to Ed and Carolyn Garr, had renovated the restaurant in 2003, adding the red-and-white tile and red booths.

Hobbs and a crew are continuing to work on the interior, which has seen the front of house gutted. New flooring is being installed this week.

Another suggestion was a jukebox. Hobbs said that is coming as well.

Hobbs said he has secured the original recipe to serve up Dixie chili dogs and chili buns.

In addition the restaurant will offer daily specials and a variety of other home cooked meals.

“We will have homemade peanut butter pie and coconut pie, both by the slice and whole,” Hobbs said. They will be known as, ‘Dixie Jean Pies.’”

Terrell Halcomb started what is now known as The Dixie in 1929 as “The Dixie Billiard Parlor.”

It moved to its current location on North Main Street in 1939.
