The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club heard from two speakers during its regular monthly meeting on July 12, which was held at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center. Melissa Douglas, a Whitley County teacher, spoke about a 5-K race she organized last year, The Whitley Warriors, which generated $1,069 that was donated to the Ronald McDonald House. She is planning to hold the race again this year.
The Kiwanis club also heard from Jennifer K. Perkins, a summer intern at the News Journal and student at Eastern Kentucky University, who is raising money for a study abroad trip that she has planned in St. Andrews, Scotland, from Sept. 8 – Dec. 21. The purpose of the trip is to conduct research for a senior history thesis analyzing the Tudor and Stuart Dynasties’ impacts on the religious culture of the clans of Scotland. Perkins is a journalism and history double major. Find out more about her project at https://jenniferperkins84.wixsite.com/goingscottish.
