DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL
The 2010 volleyball district tournaments have been set throughout the 13th region. South Laurel will try to defend its title from last year. The Lady Cardinals begin the process in district 50 against the North Laurel Lady Jaguars.
The Lady Jaguars will host South Laurel Tuesday in an elimination game. The Lady Cardinals come in with a 26-6 record and two wins over North Laurel. Both wins were two-set games.
Tuesday night’s winner will turn around and play number-one seeded Corbin. The Lady Redhounds are 16-14. Corbin split with South Laurel, beating the Lady Cardinals for the first time in school history, Sept. 14. The teams played twice in the Lady Rocket Invitational with South Laurel winning both games.
District 49
Jackson County is the favorite in District 49 and will have an automatic trip to the regional tournament after taking the number one seed. Clay County (9-10) will play OBI (7-8) with the winner taking on Jackson County (17-7) twenty minutes later.
District 51
Whitley County has the number one seed in District 51. The tournament will be played in two nights with Knox Central (3-13) taking on Lynn Camp (0-17) in game one Monday night. The winner will play Whitley County (18-10) Tuesday night.
District 52
The only four-team district in the region. Harlan County (14-4) will play Harlan High (6-16) Monday followed by the Middlesboro (6-18) – Bell County (7-13) game.
The winners will play Tuesday at Harlan County.
The region winners will advance to the 13th Region Tournament, Oct. 18-21 at Knox Central (tentative host).
