Deputies: Gray man who fired gunshots near home, fought with deputies, was intoxicated

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies say a Gray man, accused of firing multiple gunshots near a residence and then fighting with deputies that responded to the complaint, was under the influence of alcohol.

Deputies arrested Wayne Golden, 54, on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment, public intoxication, resisting arrest, two counts of third-degree assault on a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Deputy William Stewart, the department’s public affairs officer, said that deputies Jesse Smith and Scotty Wilson responded to the complaint on Quinn Loop at approximate 7:20 p.m.

In addition to firing the gunshots, Golden allegedly stuck the weapon to another man’s chest before fleeing from the residence and walking along the nearby railroad tracks.

Deputies located Golden lying on the train tracks approximately 10 minutes later, noting that still had the pistol in his hand.

A struggle ensued between the deputies and Golden after which Golden was taken into custody and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

At some point during the arrest, Stewart said that Golden made repeated threats that he would kill the deputies which resulted in the terroristic threatening charges being added.

While being processed into the jail, Golden allegedly punched a deputy jailer and threatened to kill him, resulting in additional charges.
