Deputies arrest two on I-75 for DUI and drug related charges
While trying to assist a motorist on I-75 Thursday, Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Pine Knot woman and another man for impaired driving and drug charges.
According to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, Sergeant Ken Shepherd and Deputy Shawn Jackson noticed a vehicle in the median of I-75 Thursday night and stopped to assist. After approaching the vehicle, they could see that the driver, 26-year-old Jennifer Cordell, of Pine Knot, appeared to be under the influence. Shepherd requested the assistance of Deputy Kirk Mays and his K-9 partner, Blitz.
Blitz "hit" on the car — alerting police to the possible presence of "unlawful substances."
Brian Ball, 34, of Stearns, was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle who had left on foot to obtain gasoline. On his person, deputies found hydrocodone pills. The driver, Cordell, was arrested for DUI. Ball was arrested for public intoxication, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance not in its proper container. Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
