Delving a little deeper into our website
One of the most positive things to come out of our redesigned Internet site is the ability to bring you, the readers, more information than ever before.
I’ve always lamented the fact that the tens of thousands of you that read the News Journal are only getting a glimpse of the actual story behind the stories. As reporters, everyday we come across important government documents or other little tidbits of information that you never get to actually see for yourself because of space limitation in the print edition of our paper, or because it simply isn’t practical to publish it. So you have to rely on us telling you what we think are the highlights. These restrictions are removed with the Internet and we have been taking advantage of that freedom.
Anytime you see a headline on a story tagged with the words EXTRA CONTENT, that is our way of teling you there is a little bit more to see than just the story. For instance, the mayor of Corbin declared a "state of emergency" for the town following recent flooding. On our website, we have provided the actual decree signed by the mayor and the letter he sent to Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear. Another example is the recent decision regarding punishment against a Corbin bus driver. Instead of simply quoting a few lines out of these letters, they are on www.thenewsjournal.net for you to see in their entirety.
Click around in the news section of the site and you will see more. We intend to maintain a committment to this practice. It’s all a part of bringing you the best and most dynamic media website in the tri-county area.
