Days-long multi-agency search still ongoing for missing Whitley County man

The search for a missing Whitley County man continues three days after he was last seen.

Darrell Carter, of Rockholds, allegedly entered a wooded area near Gail Hart Road in search of snake weed on Sunday and did not return home. Carter was reported missing shortly after the time in which he had stated he would be back. A Golden Alert was issued Monday by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.

Since Monday, a makeshift command center has been erected near where Carter disappeared and the search has expanded into

a multi-county, multi-agency effort, including emergency management, police, fire departments and even public citizens from throughout the Tri-County and other adjoining counties. Whitley County Emergency Management Director Anthony Christie said Tuesday morning that there has been such an outpouring of help that he couldn’t possibly attempt to name everyone who has been involved thus far.

“We’ve got about every resource we can get out here,” said Christie. “We’re doing all we can right now.”

Since Monday, a makeshift command center has been erected near where Carter disappeared.

Christie also noted that there had been several residents who live near the command center provide reports from overnight Monday that were being followed up on.

Carter was last seen wearing a red checkered shirt, blue jeans and brown boots. He is 75 years old and has a history of

dementia. If anyone has any information that could be helpful in the search for Carter, they are asked to contact the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department via dispatch at (606) 549-6017.
