Dalton Brewer cited for DUI following crash
Dalton Christopher Brewer has been cited to Whitley District Court on a DUI charge after he allegedly lost control of his pickup truck on Gordon Street and demolished the Corbin Civic Center sign Wednesday night.
Police were called to the after area residents reportedly saw the accident and notified police.
Major Rob Jones, public affairs officer for the police department, said Brewer had red blood shot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
Brewer reportedly told police that he ran off the road after colliding with another vehicle.
Brewer was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center to be examined and then released to his family.
Jones said police secured a blood sample and have sent it to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab in Frankfort for analysis.
Sgt. James Miller is leading the investigation.
Brewer is scheduled to appear in Whitley District Court in Corbin at 9 a.m. on July 31.
In 2010, a federal lawsuit that Brewer filed against Whitley County in which he claimed he was pistol-whipped by former Corbin Police Officer and one-time Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Anthony Ramey was settled for an undisclosed amount of money.
The lawsuit stemmed from a 2007 incident in which Brewer claimed that Tony Ramey’s son, Perry, stole a pistol from his father and then sold it to Brewer for $300 cash.
When Tony Ramey learned about it, he and Perry reportedly went to Brewer’s home with the intention of retrieving the gun. When Brewer and Perry Ramey began fighting, Brewer claimed that Tony Ramey, who was a card-carrying Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy, told him he was under arrest and beat and choked him.
A jury later found for Brewer and awarded him $6.2 million. However the two sides agreed to hold a settlement conference, which resulted in Brewer dismissing the lawsuit in exchange for an undisclosed monetary settlement.
Wednesday’s incident marks the second run-in with law enforcement Brewer has had since the lawsuit was settled.
In January, Brewer was arrested in Laurel County when sheriff’s deputies investigating a domestic violence complaint, reported finding someone else’s hydrocodone pills on Brewer’s person.
According to Sheriff John Root, Deputy Greg Turner and Sgt. Greg Poynter were called to Caleb Lane Apartments.
The deputies reported hearing arguing through the doorway. When speaking to the individuals inside, Brewer and an unidentified woman, the deputies noted the woman had a red mark across her face that appeared to have come from someone slapping.
Brewer was charged with fourth-degree assault – domestic violence, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and controlled substance not in proper container.
According to Laurel District Court officials, the charges were dismissed on June 27 at the request of the defendant when the complaining witness failed to appear.

This is the 4th run in he has had with law enforcement since the settlement. He claimed he can never drive again and suffers from seizures. He was charged with DUI and he is finally going to court for the 2007 charges he and his buddy Rachel were indicted on in Nov 2007. CPD did a great job.
