Cumberland Valley Cruise-In returns Sat.

Classics, customs, and generally cool cars, trucks, motorcycles and even lawnmowers will be on display as the 2016 Cumberland Valley Cruise-In kicks off Saturday.

Chris McQueen, one of the organizers of the event, said the cruise-in term is being taken literally this year, as the vehicles will meet at the parking lot outside The Corbin Center. At 10:30 a.m. the vehicles will “cruise” down Falls Highway and onto Kentucky 90 to the event “in” the parking lot at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park.

The parade will be led by Kentucky State Police’s classic cruiser and will be escorted by officers from KSP’s Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.

“You are looking at a parade of cars about a mile long,” McQueen said.

The vehicles will reach the falls about 11 a.m., setting up in the parking lot near the falls.

McQueen said visitors may use the parking lot at DuPont Lodge or the falls overflow lot. Park employees will be running a free shuttle service between the parking lots.

“In the past, we had used about half of the falls parking lot,” McQueen said. “We outgrew that last year so they agreed to give us the entire lot.”

In addition to the vehicles, McQueen said the falls food service staff would have hamburgers, hot dogs and even barbecue available for sale.

A live DJ will be on site playing favorite cruising music.

McQueen said the cruise-in would go until about 3:30 p.m.

Anyone who has a vehicle they would like to display is welcome and encouraged to bring it.

“The way I look at it, if you think your car, truck, motorcycle or other motorized vehicle is something, bring it,” McQueen said. “We have one guy who brings a lawn mower.”

McQueen, who has a collection of replica vehicles from the television show, “The Dukes of Hazzard,” will be bringing his Hazzard County Sheriff’s car.

In addition, replicas of other famous cars from television and the movies including a Volkswagen Beetle painted like “Herbie,” from the Disney movies, a Pontiac Trans Am rebuilt to look like “KITT” from the television show “Knight Rider, and a 1959 Cadillac professional chassis painted like “Ecto 1” from the “Ghostbusters” movies, will be on display.

McQueen said displaying a vehicle and/or admission to the event are both free.

This is the first of four scheduled cruise-ins.

The next will be held June 11 in downtown Corbin. The third will be July 9 in downtown Corbin and the final one will be October 1 at the falls.
