Cumberland Valley Cruise-In to be held Saturday in Corbin

Downtown Corbin will be roaring with life Saturday night as the Cumberland Valley Cruise-In takes over Main Street.

The third of four scheduled car shows will begin at 4 p.m.

Cars, trucks and motorcycles, and any other street-legal vehicles are welcome.

“If you think your car is a hot rod or classic, or if you have a tractor, motorcycle or even lawn mower that you want to show off, bring it,” said Chris McQueen, one of the event organizers. “We accept all entries.”

Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning about 3:30 p.m. so that owners may begin to bring in their entries.

The entries will be angle-parked facing toward the middle of the street.

McQueen said a special showcase area would be set up for the featured entries.

The theme of this cruise-in is “Hot Rod Rally.”

Any and all custom vehicles will qualify for the showcase.

Gary’s Sound Machine will again provide music for the event.

Vendors will be set up at Nibroc Park.

McQueen said there is no setup fee for vendors. However, food vendors are prohibited as the downtown restaurants will be open for business during the event.

Anyone who would like to set up a booth may contact the Corbin Tourism Commission at 528-0669.

McQueen said Hillview Stables would have its “Trackless Train” at the event giving rides around Depot Street and up Main Street.

Rides are free with pickup and drop off occurring at the corner of Main and First Street.

“Everybody loves riding it,” McQueen said of the train noting it is a great way to see a good portion of the vehicles on display.

Multiple prizes and door prizes will also be given away throughout the course of the event.

McQueen said organizers will give away a pair of tickets to Dwight Yokam’s concert in Corbin on September 14.

Organizers will also be giving away an iPad.

“We will also be giving away cash prizes,” McQueen said. “We have a lot of stuff to give away and there will be multiple games.”

McQueen said the event will run until 8 p.m. Admission is free.

The event will be held come rain or shine.

“If we get a big tropical storm that dumps four or five inches of rain, or if we get hail or lightening, we may cancel,” McQueen said adding should the weather turn bad, check the Cruise-In Facebook page for updates.

McQueen said the previous cruise in, which was held downtown in June was one of the largest yet in terms of vehicles and crowd size, with 1,500 to 2,500 people in attendance.

McQueen credited the members of the community who have become more and more involved.

“The word is getting out about how great of an event it is,” McQueen said. “We not only draw people from the area, but we are seeing more and more people from surrounding states. That is pretty cool!”
