Cruising On
The Corbin Redhounds will go into their district game with the Whitley County Colonels Friday night on a high note after running over Middlesboro, 76-44.
“I think our kids did a good job filling the lanes and pushing the ball out,” said Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski.
Corbin trailed in the first several minutes of the game but once the offense was turned on, the Redhounds were hard to stop.
Down 8-2, the ‘Hounds made a 10-0 run and never trailed again. Freshman Madison Johnson started the run with a three pointer followed by two Deke Barley baskets that sent the Redhounds ahead, 9-8. Johnson sealed the deal with a second three pointer and Middlesboro called a time-out.
Corbin’s lead was 20-12 at the end of the first quarter and 33-25 at the half.
Middlesboro closed to within four (33-29) but a Johnson three and a Clayton Sewell basket pushed the margin out to nine (38-29).
The Redhounds outscored Middlesboro 20-8 in the quarter.
“The kids had the effort on defense. They have to make sure we get that type of effort every game,” said Pietrowski.
Josh Crawford led Corbin with 17 points followed by Johnson’s 16 points. Josh Smith tossed in 14 points and freshman Aaron Manns scored 12 points.
The Redhounds will meet the Colonels at 6 p.m. Friday night at Whitley County High.
