Corbin’s John-Austin Childress signs with Midway golf Friday
Friday morning, Corbin High School senior golfer John-Austin Childress signed on to compete at the next level as a member of the Midway University men’s golf team.
“It’s a bag of emotions,” said Childress’ coach and father, Brian Childress. “John-Austin has worked hard to get where he’s at, and I’m just really proud of him. This has been one of his goals ever since he started playing golf. To see one of your players, especially your child, accomplish that goal is a big thing.”
When asked about getting the opportunity to play at Midway, Childress said, “I’m just really grateful. I’ve wanted to play college golf ever since I was a little kid, so this is finally a dream coming true. It’s just a great feeling, and it couldn’t have happened without the support of my parents, my family and all my friends.”
Otis Smith, head coach of the Midway men’s golf program, said of signing Childress, “I’m very happy to be signing John-Austin. I’m very excited that he has accepted the scholarship offer, and will be coming up to play for the University. He is a tremendous kid. Golf is one thing, but I’m also excited because he’s also great academically.”
The News Journal would like to wish Childress the best as he continues his golfing career at the collegiate level.
