Corbin’s Jacob Baker is top ranked field goal kicker in Ky.
Corbin Redhounds’ kicker Jacob Baker is the top ranked kicker in the state, according to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
Baker is six-of-seven on the season, including a new school record 51-yarder in the season opener against Christ School, and a 44-yarder against Franklin County.
The one miss occurred Friday night against Somerset when Coach Tom Greer elected to send Baker out to try a 57-yard kick with seconds remaining in the first half. The kick fell short.
“First of all. I know he has the leg to hit it at 57 yards if he connects on it and secondly, there was 1.9 seconds and it just worked out that way,” Greer said. “We would have tried it from 30 yards or 60 yards with that time remaining on clock.”
Baker is averaging 1.2 field goals per game and has a success rate of 87.7 percent.
Baker ranks eighth in extra points, hitting 24 of 24 on the season and averaging 4.8 extra points per game.
