Corbin woman wanted in three cases runs from deputy

A Corbin woman allegedly lead a Whitley County Sheriff’s deputy on a foot chase early Saturday morning in the Maple Creek community.

Deputy Brian Hensley responded to a Maple Creek Road home about 4:25 a.m. to investigate a complaint that a man and woman were inside a residence while the homeowner was gone, according to an arrest citation.

When Hensley made contact with a woman at the residence, she told him her name was Ashley Harmon, but claimed that she didn’t know her social security number, Hensley wrote on the citation.

When Hensley told her that he was going to take her to the sheriff’s office to determine who she was, the woman took off running, Hensley wrote.

While chasing the woman, Hensley ran through a torn bush causing multiple cuts to his arms and face.

Even after Hensley caught the woman, she kept trying to jerk away, according to the citation.

With assistance from Whitley County E911 dispatchers and Whitley County Detention Center employees, Hensley determined that the woman was Tabitha Harmon, 25, of Barton Mill Road, and that she had three warrants for her arrest, including two felony warrants, according a sheriff’s department release.

Hensley charged Harmon with giving an officer a false name or address, first-degree fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest in connection with Sunday morning’s incident.

Harmon pleaded not guilty to those charges during her arraignment Monday afternoon in Whitley District Court. Judge

Fred White set a $10,000 cash bond in this case and appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Harmon.

Harmon also pleaded not guilty Monday in connection to an August first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court case. White set a $5,000 cash bond in that case.

In addition, Harmon pleaded not guilty Monday in connection with a July case for giving an officer a false name or address, and two counts of contempt of court. White set a $2,500 cash bond in that case.

White scheduled an Oct. 10 hearing in her three district court cases.

Court documents also indicate that Harmon is being held in connection with a circuit court case and that she is considered a flight risk.

A sheriff’s department press release indicates that one of the cases that Harmon was wanted in connection with at the time of her arrest was a methamphetamine trafficking case.
