A Corbin woman was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Thursday after her car went off the road and into a creek.
According to Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Jackson, Kimberly Durbin, 50, was traveling west on Ky. 511 about 2:20 p.m. in her Chevrolet Caprice near the 3300 block.
"She made the statement that she swerved to miss a slower motorist," Jackson said. "She lost control of the vehicle, dropped off the road and landed in the creek."
Oak Grove and Woodbine firefighters responded to the scene. They used the Jaws-of-Life to remove the top from the car. Durbin was taken by ambulance to the Corbin Speedway where firefighters had established a landing zone.
Jackson said Dubin was wearing her seat belt and there is no evidence that either drugs or alcohol were a factor in the wreck.
"There is no evidence that this was anything besides a single vehicle accident," Jackson said.
Traffic was reduced to one lane as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
Whitley County EMS also responded to the scene.
