Corbin woman indicted for murder

A Knox County Grand Jury indicted Deborah Poore for murder on Feb. 24.
A Knox County grand jury has returned a murder indictment against a Corbin woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death.
Fifty-four-year-old Deborah Bryant Poore was indicted Friday on one count of murder in connection with the Feb. 9 incident involving 57-year-old Steve Burke.
Kentucky State Police were called to Lois Lane about 9:30 p.m. in response to a complaint that a female subject had assaulted a male subject.
Burke was pronounced dead at the scene.
KSP Detective Jacob Wilson, who is investigating the case, said that state police located Poore on Ky. 80 in Clay County after the car she was driving had run out of gas.
The car belonged to Burke’s deceased mother.
“The subject began to tell Trooper (Jared) Smith details of the assault,” Wilson stated. “The subject admitted to stabbing her boyfriend during a verbal dispute at their residence in Knox County.”
“The subject stated she was unaware of the condition of Steven,” Wilson noted in the arrest citation.
Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan, said investigators are not releasing any additional information as it could possibly hurt the case.
This case would not qualify for the death penalty under Kentucky law.
The death penalty is an option only in cases that involve more than one victim or if another violent crime such as rape, robbery, or kidnapping is committed in concert with the murder.
If convicted of murder, Poore faces 20 to 50 years, or life in prison.
Poore is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
Poore is scheduled to appear in Knox Circuit Court at 1 p.m. Friday for a pretrial conference.
