Corbin woman in critical condition after being struck by SUV

A Corbin woman is in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after she was struck by an SUV on the Corbin bypass Sunday night.

Corbin Police Captain Coy Wilson, the department’s public affairs officer, said Tina Mullins, 47, was walking on the roadway near the intersection with Ky. 26 at approximately 10:30 p.m. when she was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet SUV driven by Kelli Marlow.

“She was clipped by the SUV,” Wilson said of Mullins.

Mullins reportedly suffered severe injuries to her lower limbs. One foot was nearly amputated

Marlow remained at the scene as Corbin Police, Corbin Firefighters and Whitley County EMS responded.

Firefighters shut down the bypass to traffic to land a helicopter, which transported Mullins to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Wilson said while an investigation at the scene revealed nothing to suspect Marlow was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, she was taken to Baptist Health Corbin for a blood draw to confirm that.

Firefighters said the road was closed to traffic for approximately 45 minutes as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
