Corbin woman facing drug possession charges

A Corbin woman is facing drug possession charges after police found suspected meth in her vehicle, and a pill in her mouth after she got to jail, according to court documents.

Rachel Adams is facing drug possession charges.

Rachel Lee Adams, 39, of Jasper Jamboree Road, pleaded not guilty during her arraignment Monday morning to charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance-meth, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving on a DUI suspended license, failure to produce vehicle insurance card, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree promoting contraband.

Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Adams, scheduled an Aug. 6 preliminary hearing and set a $7,500 cash bond in her case.

Williamsburg Police Officer Cody Jeffries stopped Adams at Pilot Travel Center about 12:33 a.m. Saturday in her 2005 red Dodge car because he had knowledge that she had an active bench warrant against her, according to an arrest citation.

Adams allegedly gave Jeffries an identification card with the name Heather Elliott, but he knew she was not Elliott, he wrote on a citation.

As she exited the vehicle, Jeffries observed a red baggy with a crystal substance inside.

After Adams was placed in handcuffs, police determined that she had two active warrants for her arrest.

Police then got permission to search Adams’ purse where they found a clear baggy with a crystal substance inside it and a syringe, plus a small metal container with a green leafy substance inside it, according to an arrest citation.

Adams was transported to the Whitley County Detention Center where authorities found a white pill in her mouth, another citation stated.
