Corbin woman calls 911 to have police arrest her for domestic violence

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint after the perpetrator called 911 and admitted to dispatchers what had occurred.

Deputies arrested 21-year-old Carol Ann Jackson of Corbin on one count of fourth-degree assault – domestic violence after responding to the complaint at a residence off of Robert E. Cox Road.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies were dispatched to the scene about 4:45 p.m. after a 911 dispatcher advised that Jackson had called them and said the couple had been arguing and she had punched her boyfriend in the nose and wanted to go to jail.

“She was remorseful about it,” Acciardo said of Jackson. “I guess she knew what she had done was wrong.”

Deputies arrived on the scene off of American Greeting Card Road where they spoke with Jackson and her boyfriend.

“I’m not sure that the boyfriend would have called it in,” Acciardo said adding that under Kentucky law, law enforcement has no choice when called in this situation but to make the arrest.

“We had no problems with her, whatsoever,” Acciardo said.

Jackson appeared in Laurel District Court Monday where she pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault.

In return for her guilty plea, Judge Wendell “Skip” Hammons sentenced Jackson to 360 days in jail, ordering her to serve seven days, with the balance conditionally discharged provided there are no further violations within the next two years.

In addition, Jackson must pay $184 in court costs.
