Corbin woman arrested for DUI, shoplifting found to have five outstanding warrants in Whitley County
What began as a complaint about a possible drunk driver Sunday night in Keavy, ended with the recovery of stolen merchandise from a local dollar store and the arrest of a Corbin woman on multiple charges including shoplifting and.
Thirty-four-year-old Misty Johnson was arrested about 5:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store at the intersection of Ky. 312 and Ky. 770.
According to Sheriff John Root, Deputy Rick Cloyd responded to the initial complaint of possible drunk driver that had pulled into the store’s parking lot.
When Cloyd spoke with the driver, later identified as Johnson, he said she appeared to be under the influence.
“In addition Deputy Cloyd found this subject in possession of $60 worth of merchandise from the Dollar General Store that she had concealed and lodged into her vehicle without paying for them,” Root said.
Root said when Cloyd told Johnson she was under arrest she began struggling and had to be escorted to the police cruiser.
Social Services was contacted concerning the three children, who reportedly belong to one of Johnson’s neighbors. The children were taken home.
When Cloyd checked Johnson’s criminal record, he learned she had five outstanding arrest warrants.
Johnson was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/intoxicants, three booster seat violations and theft by unlawful taking of the value under $500 – shoplifting.
In addition, Johnson was served with five warrants out of Whitley County charging her with failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication – controlled substances, leaving rehab and failure to return to jail on charges of second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree assault on a police officer and contempt of court, leaving rehab and failing to comply with order on charges of public intoxication – controlled substances and contempt of court, failure to appear in court on charges of operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and failure to wear seatbelts and failure to appear in court on charges of third-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree assault.
Johnson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $2,500 cash bond.
