CORBIN WINS 8-1
The Corbin Lady Redhounds soccer team opened the season in fine fashion with an 8-1 win over the Richmond Model Lady Patriots in Richmond Monday night.
All-State candidate Amerah Dixon led the Lady Redhounds with four goals and one assist.
Corbin jumped ahead of the Lady Patriots 3-0 before Haley Corn scored for the Model. Corbin led 3-1 at the half then added five more goals to run away with the game.
“We played an exceptional second half. The girls moved the ball around well and were completely unselfish. Six of the goals were unassisted and there were five different goal scorers. That is what I want to see from this team,” said Corbin Coach Eric Steely.
“We have a lot of talented players and I want them to create opportunities for one another and they were able to do this with considerable success last night. Of course this is exactly the kind of performance I wanted to start the season with.
There are some things we need to work on for certain, but there were so many positives to build upon. I’m very excited with what I witnessed last night,” Steely said.
Senior Whitney Baker, sophomore Morgan Boggs, sophomore Caitlin Gentry and junior Taylor Rawlings all caught the net in scoring a goal each in the lopsided win.
Senior midfielder Chaylee Haggard led Corbin in assists with two while Boggs, Dixon, Rawlings and Sydney Hurst had one each.
Sophomore Meghann Blackburn and freshman Anna Chen combined to allow just one goal to the Lady Patriots.
Corbin will be at home Saturday to take on the Bryan Station Lady Defenders in a 12-noon start. The Lady Redhounds defeated Bryan Station last season, 3-1.
