Corbin unveils event schedule
For all intents and purposes, spring has sprung and community events in Corbin will be picking up beginning in April.
The first Depot Street Market of the season, which began in 2012 as the Corbin Community Yard Sale, will be held on April 2.
Corbin Downtown Director Maggy Monhollen changed the event name in 2021 as part of the effort to update the monthly event.
“It is still the yard sale. It is just a bigger, better shopping experience,” Monhollen said in announcing the change last year noting that the goal was to add antique dealers, people who sell items at the Vendors Mall, local farmers, artists and craft makers.
Depot Street will be closed to traffic between Gordon Street and Fifth Street at 7 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month in order to allow sellers to setup.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. with dates set for May 7, June 4, July 2, Aug. 6, Sept. 3 and Oct. 1.
The Whitley County Farmers Market will return to Corbin each Tuesday night beginning on April 26 and continue through September.

Fresh fruits and vegetables, handmade items and more are available from local vendors.
The second annual Colonel Fest will return to Main Street on April 23.
Monhollen said signups for vendors has begun.
“We have quite a few that are interested,” Monhollen said noting that the area between Second Street and Gordon Street has room for approximately 60 vendors.
“I do feel pretty confident that we are going to get pretty close to that number,” Monhollen said adding that vendors will including pottery, soaps and bath products, quilted and crocheted items, handcrafted jewelry and farmers market style goods.
Vendor space is $25 for a 10×10 space or $50 for a 10×20 space.
In addition to the vendors, Colonelfest will feature a secret recipe chicken contest where participants may enter samples of their own fried chicken.
The Fingerlickin’ Chicken .5K will again be held.
