Corbin Tourism Commission looking for Corbin High School memorabilia for traveling Smithsonian exhibit

Corbin Tourism is asking alumni and other Redhound fans to help tell the story of Corbin High School’s sports history.

Corbin is one of the 14 small towns across Kentucky that has been selected to host the Smithsonian Museum’s traveling exhibit, “Hometown Teams.”

The exhibit, which will be on display November 18 through December 30 at The Corbin Center, is designed to tell the story of the effect high school sports has had on small town America.

“The Smithsonian tells the general story and our job as host is to tie it in from a local standpoint,” said Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel.

In an effort to do that, Kriebel is asking anyone with memorabilia to volunteer it for the duration of the Corbin exhibit.

“We are working with limited space so we have to use our discretion about how the memorabilia applies to the story we are trying to tell,” Kriebel said explaining that items that pertain to great moments, teams or individuals in the schools history are most desired.

Along with items, Kriebel said any newspaper clippings that would provide details would be welcome.

Kriebel said the deadline for items is October 13.

Kriebel said several items have already come in including a letter jacket and home and away jerseys from the 1950s and a Little League uniform from the 1940s.

“The older, the better,” Kriebel said of what she is looking for.

“I would just like to have a variety of things to display,” Kriebel added.

The exhibit will set up in the glass room inside the Corbin Center and will be free to the public.
