Corbin Tourism Commission elects new officers; Onkst named board chairman

The Corbin Tourism Commission is getting new leadership.
At Tuesday’s commission meeting, the commissioners unanimously approved a motion to name Alan Onkst chairman, Victor Patel vice-chair and Jackie Willis the treasurer.
“I’m excited,” Onkst said. “I just want to continue to lead us in the same director Mr. (Sudhir) Patel has taken us over the last two years. “We have a great board and I hope everything continues to run smoothly.”
Patel will continue to serve on the commission along with Theresa Carpenter, Tanya Marcum and Thom Rose.
Patel said he is very proud of the work the commissioners have done during his tenure, including working to finish Sanders Park and hiring Director Portia Flowers-Gosser and Associate Director Maggy Kriebel.
“I have tried my very best to work with everybody,” Patel said.
Patel cited Onkst’s experience as a former city commissioner as an asset.
“I think he will be a good chair,” Patel said of Onkst.
