Corbin Sweep
The Corbin Redhounds swept a doubleheader Monday beating the Knox Central Panthers, 7-5 then holding off the Bell County Bobcats, 5-4.
The Panthers came to House Field for the first game of the afternoon and watched as the Redhounds jumped ahead 5-0. The Redounds (12-5) scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Josh Hamlin led off with a double to right centerfield.
Chance Hendrickson drew a walk before senior Kenny Kysar knocked in Hamlin for a 1-0 lead.
Senior first baseman Andrew Davis then drove in two runs with a single to left field. Jake Mahan kept the action going with a triple to centerfield. Davis scored on the hit and the lead was four. Travis Prewitt knocked in Mahan for the final run of the inning.
The Redhounds padded their lead in the third inning when Davis and Mahan scored for Corbin, pushing the lead to 7-0.
The Panthers rallied in the fourth inning with a three-run homer by Bob Blevins and another run to close the gap to 7-5. However, that would be the Panthers only big threats of the game.
The Bell County Bobcats provided the opposition for the second game of the day. The Redhounds came away with a 5-4 win.
Corbin scored in the home half of the third when Josh Hamlin was walked with the bases loaded. Travis Prewitt, who reached on a base hit, scored after Josh Ware and Hobe Watkins helped load the bases.
Corbin scored twice in the fourth inning and upped its score to 3-0. Mahan had a big two-run single to rightfield.
The Redhounds owned a 5-1 lead when the Bobcats made a run at Corbin in the top of the sixth. Hamlin scored the winning run in the fifth inning. He led off with a single followed by a Clint Cashen base hit. Hendrickson and Mahan answered with hits to produce the winning margin.
Corbin will host a red-hot Middlesboro team Thursday before playing in the Southwestern Pulaski Invitational this weekend.
