Corbin students nabbed for drug swapping

Police took three Corbin High School students into custody Tuesday after they were caught swapping prescription pills with one another.

According to police, one adult student, 18-year-old Cody Hoskins, and two 16-year-old juveniles (one male, one female), were arrested by police after a brief investigation into the allegations.
Corbin Police Capt. Tim Helton said authorities responded when they were alerted by school officials about the incident.

“The kids were trading pills between each other,” Helton said. “They were all non-controlled prescribed medications for conditions that doctors treat people for … I don’t think they realized what they were doing as far as the type of meds they were trading.”

Helton said the three were observed trading by “people at the school.” School officials searched the students’ lockers and found the pills. The students did not have a large amount of the medications.

All three were charged with possessing prescription drugs not in a proper container, a class B misdemeanor with a possible penalty of up to six months in jail.

The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents Tuesday. Hoskins was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Helton did not identify the pills the students allegedly traded.
